We asked our survey respondents to indicate the solicitor blogs that resonated with them, and the response was overwhelming. There were two blogs in particular that our survey respondents raved about. These are: (1) Daniel Barnett, and (2) Howse Williams. Based on our survey results, these two blogs have managed to successfully engage respondents based on the quality of the content published. One respondent indicated that Daniel Barnett’s blog provides ‘great content’ that is ‘informative’. Another referred to it as a ‘go-to for practical guidance and case analysis’. Particularly, this blog can prove educative for other professionals within the legal community.

These blogs covered a wide range of themes which highlight breadth in the discourse. As such, readers can expect to find news from a trainee perspective, reflections on recent legal developments, case studies from the perspective of a current trainee at the firm, and practical advice and tips. Arguably, the solicitor is able to provide more practical and insightful advice to prospective and current clients given that a solicitor’s primary role is to advise and represent customers in relation to a particular type of legal issue. This practitioner’s perspective is integral. The discussions within their blogs are supported by anecdotes and stories which promise to keep readers engaged. The blogs specifically offer commentary, news, and advice related to disputes, employment, and personal injury. Primarily, while it is established that these blogs are successful in retaining the attention of the targeted readership, this reveals the role that good content can play in promoting trust and loyalty among readers. In most cases, blog owners are looking to make two connections: (i) with prospective customers; and (ii) with other professionals.
